Hello and welcome to our blog about Earby’s new luncheon club.
I’m Jess and will be blogging on behalf of myself, my partner in crime Claire and our local community.
The first luncheon club was set up many moons ago for those over 50 to socialise and have a home cooked meal once weekly. The first club was set up by a local hero Mr Malcom King who I’m sad to say we never got to meet as he passed away in 2011. The luncheon club has had three main cooks over the years and an army of the most beautiful volunteers, the last cook Rosemary who ran it for five years has relocated to Scotland and I’m pleased I got to work along side her in February this year and got to see the cheer this club brings to 40-50 locals one day a week.
In June this club closed due to Rosemary relocating to Scotland and after several pleas in local papers, a suggestion from one of my clients and a personal heartfelt plea to myself from Graham another one of Earby’s hero’s who I’d never met before it took him 5 minutes to convince me that Earby’s Community needed this club setting back up!!!!
So that’s that. It took a nano second to convince Claire and yesterday September the 11th after weeks and weeks of planning we reopened Earby’s New luncheon club and after a HUGE success I feel it essential to share the joy in hope that we can get our younger generation into setting up clubs like this to thank our older generation and provide a service that offers a place to socialise as well as providing them with a fresh wholesome tasty two course meal and a cuppa for just £6 a head
I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers who we only met yesterday and we already class them as friends.
